Ireland: The unique beauty of Iralnd's landscape and its rich historic, literery and artistic associations have long made it a favourite resort for tourists. Encompassing a wealth of natural beauty within its modest dimensions, Ireland boasts a landscape which is as much diverse as it is gratifying. The scenic grandeur is set off by Ireland's position. Standing in the path of both the prevailing westerly winds of the Atlantic and the warming currents of the Gulf Stream, Ireland enjoys an equable climate which gives the country its unique fresh appearance.

Some more postcards from Ireland

Dublin, capital of Ireland, was founded by Viking pirates over a thousand years ago. The lovely city stands at the foot of the Wicklow Mountains, facing Dublin bay and is famousfor its magnificent Georgian architecture and spacious streets. Through it flows the swathe of the river Liffey, which rises in the heart of the Wicklow hills. O'Connell Street, the main thoroughfare, croses the river by O'Connell Bridge.

Postcard from my cousin, Dingle, Co Kerry.

Powerscourt is one of Europe's great treasures and Ireland's most famous House & Gardens gracing the Wicklow mountains, 20 km from Dublin city centre. In 1908 a Japanese garden was laid out on reclaimed bogland to the south of the Triton pond. A series of concentric paths leads the visitor around the garden which features a pagoda, stone lanterns and several bridges over a stream. Palnting in this area includes Japanese maples, azaleas and Chinese Fortune Palms (Trachycarpus fortunei).

Kilkenny Castle, Co Kilkenny - Aerial View

St. Canice's Cathedral, Kilkenny. St. Canice's Cathedral dates from the 13th century and is thought to be built on the site of the 6th century church of St. Canice. Once a roofless ruin, much repair and restoration has been carried out over the years, but the Cathedral has retained many of its original features such as the Round Tower - a relic of the ancient church, and stepped battlements. The interior has many fine medieval monumens dating from 1285, effigies and other sculptures.

New Ross, Co.Wexford, Ireland

New Ross, set on a steep hill overlooking the River Barrow, is one of the oldest towns in County Wexford, Ireland. Its narrow winding streets give it an old world charm. New Ross is steeped in history and is an exellent centre for touring the surrounding area. There are many places of interest in the town such as the 13th century church of St.Mary and the Three Bullet Gate, in which three cannon balls from Cromwell's bombardment lodged.

Dunbrody: The original Dunbrody was a three - masted barque built in Quebec, Canada, for the Graves family of New Ross, Co.Wexford in 1845. She carried many emigrants to the new world from 1845 - 1870. The Dunbrody Project involved the construction of a full scale sea - going replica. The Dunbrody was finished in early 2001 and has been opened to visitors since 1st May, 200 at the quaysude in New Ross.
